Egg Hatchery Humidification and Humidity Control

Get advice on hatchery humidity control

Benefits

To ensure optimal conditions for hatching an egg in a commercial environment, it is critical to ensure that humidity, temperature and air flow are all controlled. By making these considerations, both quality and yield is maximized. These principles apply to all egg hatchery applications, from chickens to geese or any other type of poultry, however the specifications will vary depending on individual requirements.

Optimised hatchability and chick quality

Stable humidity boosts chick strength, survival, and uniform growth.

Enhanced hygiene and biosecurity

Humidification reduces dust and pathogens, keeping hatcheries cleaner and safer for eggs and chicks.

Reduce losses and waste

Precise humidity control prevents shell sticking, weak embryos, malformations and yield loss.

Egg hatcheries humidity control

Optimal conditions guaranteed at every stage of incubation

Each stage of the hatching process requires specific humidity parameters to ensure embryo viability and chick development. For pre-incubation storage of up to 7 days, maintain 70–80% relative humidity to reduce dehydration. For extended storage beyond 7 days, increase to 80–88% relative humidity to protect the albumen. During the growth phase, use 50–60% relative humidity to allow correct air space development and proper lung function. In the development phase, keep 50–60% relative humidity to prevent wet navels and red hocks. For the hatching phase, maintain 50–60% relative humidity to avoid the shell sticking to the down. Finally, in the first three days post-hatch, provide 70% relative humidity in chick pens and broiler houses to prevent dehydration.

Variety of solutions

With a range of different solutions, Condair provides exactly the right amount of humidity to the customer’s needs. Condair’s systems are tailored to energy usage preferences and the humidification requirements of the facility. Typically, these are low-cost gas-fired humidifiers or energy-efficient adiabatic humidifiers.

Proven hygiene, reliability and easy integration

Designed for sensitive environments, Condair humidifiers combine durability, hygiene and precision. Their modular design integrates easily into existing HVAC systems - or direct rooms - and maintenance remains simple and economical. They conform to internationally recognised VDI hygiene standards.

Lufafa Hatchery

Lufafa Hatchery is situated in the Letaba District, about 26 kilometeres east of Tzaneen, in the Limpopo Province. The hatchery began operating in early 1992 with the aim of producing and supplying top quality day-old chicks. Condair EL electrode steam humidifiers are helping to maintain the ideal pre-incubation and hatching humidity levels.
