How often do I need to service a steam humidifier?

The service frequency of a steam humidifier depends on several factors - mainly the type of humidifier, water quality and usage pattern. As a general guideline, routine inspections should occur every 3 months with a full service taking place every 6 - 12 months. This could involve replacing consumables and cleaning scale. If a humidifier has prolonged downtime, a thorough clean and inspection should take place before bringing the unit back online.

What will the engineer do on a PMA service visit?

The extent of works will vary depending on the unit being maintained, but typically a service engineer will run a full operational review, to assess performance and hygiene, and identify optimisation opportunities. The system will be fully cleaned and disinfected, including drain hoses, water tanks and distribution systems. Replacement of all appropriate consumable items and calibration of sensors.

Guidance can be provided on potential improvements to operation or on-site routine maintenance. This could include recommendations on beneficial remedial works, energy saving strategies or advice on necessary Legionella risk prevention for adherance to local regulations. Finally all relevant documentation and reporting will be provided.
