Additional humidification improves oxygen uptake and recovery.

Humidification for restful sleep

Optimal humidity in the bedroom

A healthy indoor climate in the bedroom is the key to restful sleep. During the night-time rest phase, the body cannot actively regulate itself – which makes optimal humidity all the more important. If the air in the bedroom is within the ideal range, the airways are protected, the throat and pharynx remain free of irritation, and sleep is significantly more restful. The right level of humidity prevents annoying coughing fits and ensures that the entire respiratory system can work in a relaxed manner. The result: a fresh, energetic start to the day and a noticeable increase in well-being. Optimal humidity ensures healthy, restorative sleep.

Healthy airways thanks to the right humidity

Controlled humidity between 40% and 60% creates a healthy indoor climate in the bedroom. It supports the natural protective mechanisms of the respiratory tract, keeps mucous membranes moist and boosts the immune system. This allows viruses, allergens and dust particles to be effectively trapped and removed.
The right humidity ensures healthy air to breathe while sleeping, reduces irritation and increases well-being. Sufficient humidity helps to minimise exposure to pollen and allergens and relieve the respiratory tract – particularly important for allergy sufferers and people with sensitive airways.

Better sleep quality and oxygen

The humidity in the bedroom also affects oxygen uptake and thus sleep quality. If the air is too dry, the mucous membranes dry out, which irritates the airways and reduces the efficiency of gas exchange in the alveoli. This can lead to reduced oxygen saturation in the blood and impair regeneration during the deep sleep phase.
An optimal humidity level of between 40% and 60% supports respiratory function, keeps the mucous membranes moist and improves sleep architecture. Breathing pauses are reduced (e.g. in sleep apnoea) and oxygen supply is kept constant.
The result is deeper and more restful sleep. This accelerates physical and mental recovery and reduces fatigue the next day.

The Chedi Hotel

After its opening in late 2013, The Chedi in Switzerland was named as a 2014 must go to destination by the international press. Together with other projects, it aims to make the small town of Andermatt more attractive than St. Moritz. On top of that, the Chedi exemplifies sustainability in a luxurious way. The hotel's sustainable and luxurious design is reflected in the architecture, building materials as well as its modern utilities.12 Condair hybrid humidifiers are installed to meet the building's air humidity requirements.

Healthy humidity for a Chalet in Riederalp in Switzerland

At the end of his professional career, Swiss architect Joe A. Neidhart from Lucerne fulfilled a long-held dream: he built a 250 m² passive two-family house at an altitude of around 2,000 m in Riederalp in the canton of Valais (Switzerland) with views over the Alps and the Matterhorn, which he has been living in himself for 20 weeks a year ever since. Due to the altitude, with very low winter temperatures and low humidity, Neidhart opted for a sustainable 100% solar thermal house for heating and domestic hot water and for a new, innovative system for controlled indoor air humidification.
