Bálna Budapest: Perfect humidity in iconic whale building

Bringing architecture, culture, and urban life together under one roof requires an environment that is both visually impressive and comfortable for visitors. The Bálna in Budapest achieves this balance, supported by Condair RS steam humidifiers that help maintain a pleasant indoor climate throughout the building.

The Bálna Budapest: A striking architectural landmark with optimal indoor humidity

The Bálna (“Whale”) is a business, culture and gastronomic centre in the heart of Budapest. It connects downtown Budapest with the tourism and restaurant district along the riverbank. Both its avant-garde exterior and its interior design allude to the form of a whale.

It is predominantly characterised by surfaces of steel, glass, bone-coloured concrete and satin-grey aluminium. Sunlight falls abundantly through the glass roof onto the polished concrete and wooden floors, the terrazzo-patterned stairs and the chromium-steel escalators. Comfortable humidity levels are ensured by steam humidifiers from Condair.

Condair RS

The Condair RS steam humidifiers boast patented limescale management which prevents permanent deposition of limescale on heater rods. Limestone crusts are successively detached and removed from the steam cylinder into the limescale collection vessel. Limestone management ensures extremely short waiting times and a long life.

The innovative control system fitted with a touch display ensures outstanding transparency of function and precise steam delivery. The units are the result of decades of experience and they define the state of the art in modern steam humidification.

Pfizer Ltd, UK

Pfizer has been based in Sandwich, UK, since 1954. The site at Discovery Park employs around 700 scientists, technicians, regulatory professionals and business experts all working towards creating life-saving medicines for patients. Condair RS resistive steam humidifiers are maintaining the desired humidity levels in the cleanrooms for the research taking place.

GW Pharmaceuticals

GW Pharmaceuticals is a leader in therapies based on its proprietary cannabinoid product platform to treat a number of diseases. The company was the first to receive FDA approval for a CBD-based treatment for severe forms of childhood epilepsy in its Epidiolex lead product. The company has established extensive experience in researching, developing and delivering novel, breakthrough medicines, undertaking pioneering work to unlock the medical benefit of cannabis through rigorous scientific investigation, extensive clinical trials and regulatory approvals. Much of what is known about the medical uses of cannabis was discovered by GW Pharmaceuticals.Condair RS resistive steam humidifiers are maintaining the ideal humidity level in GW's research laboratories and are being supported with Condair's planned preventative maintenance services.

SITPlus Facility (Sterile Insect Technology)

This purpose-built sterile fruit fly facility, in Port Augusta, Australia, is using Condair RS humidifiers to create the ideal environment for raising sterile fruit flies. Once reared, these flies are released and mate with wild female fruit flies. The result is the wild female flies cannot reproduce and numbers of wild fruit flies are controlled, thus safeguarding the horticultural industry in South Australia and Victoria. With pressure mounting on farmers to use fewer chemicals to control pests, this innovative technology is gaining momentum in Australia. Condair is proud to contribute to this important project that improves productivity for the horticultural sector.

Royal Albert Hall

Concert halls and organs

Concert halls are frequently historic buildings with many natural materials, such as wood and fabric. If the air is too dry, moisture is drawn from these materials, resulting in structural deterioration that can be costly to remediate and may adversely affect the venue's acoustic performance. Large pipe organs are highly susceptible to variations in humidity due to the numerous wooden components involved, such as wind chests, trackers, bellows and casework. Even minor dimensional changes can result in air leaks, sticking sliders and mechanical misalignments. These issues may cause tuning and pitch problems, component failures, disrupted performances and significant repair costs. Condair provides humidifiers for some of the world’s leading music venues and pipe organs, including the Royal Albert Hall, the Sydney Opera House and the Elbphilharmonie. The company also supports smaller venues around the world, such as church halls, with equal dedication and expertise.
