The Heat Exchangers business unit produces over 8 million coolers annually for the European market. Direct room air humidification has been in use in two production halls since 2012. Since then, around 600 employees have benefited from optimised indoor air at the workplace.
The indoor climate in the production halls is significantly influenced by the soldering furnaces, in which the soldering process takes place at approx. 600 °C. In 2012, Volkswagen was looking for solutions to improve working conditions for its employees. "Especially in the warm work areas, we wanted to lower the temperature, bind the dust and ensure a more pleasant working environment," says Stefan Diskau (Heat Exchanger Planning), summarizing the situation at the time.
The car manufacturer has opted for the DRAABE TurboFogNeo high-pressure air humidification system, whose nebulisers are used as spot humidifiers specifically in machine areas with high waste heat. Spread over 30,000 m², 30 direct room humidifiers ensure selective climate optimisation in the immediate vicinity of the production lines. This creates an ideal and healthy indoor climate for the employees, which is noticeably refreshing and protects the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract from drying out. Employee satisfaction has improved significantly as a result. "Thanks to the very positive experience, we have also equipped other areas in the halls with DRAABE systems step by step," reports Stefan Diskau and concludes: "It always pays off to place more emphasis on optimizing the working conditions for employees in addition to machine optimization."
