Condair ensures humidity control at the Louvre Museum, Paris

Preserving the artworks of the Louvre requires exceptionally precise climate control. Paintings, sculptures, textiles, and manuscripts are all sensitive to fluctuations in relative humidity, which can lead to cracking, warping, or irreversible damage. To ensure long-term conservation, the museum relies on strict humidity management—an area in which Condair has been a leading expert for decades. With high-performance humidification and dehumidification solutions,

Condair helps maintain stable humidity levels, typically around 50%, a crucial threshold for the stability of sensitive materials. This precise control protects the collections while ensuring comfort for visitors and staff.

The Louvre is a strong example of how professional humidity control plays a vital, though invisible, role in safeguarding world cultural heritage.

A unique cultural landmark

The Louvre Museum in Paris is a cultural giant, renowned as the world’s largest museum with 72,735 m² of exhibition space. Its immense galleries display around 38,000 artworks, from ancient civilizations to masterpieces of the Renaissance.

Originally a medieval fortress transformed into a royal palace, the Louvre became a museum in 1793 and has grown into a global symbol of art and heritage.

Today, it welcomes nearly 9 million visitors each year, making it the most visited museum in the world. Exploring the Louvre means walking kilometers of corridors, crossing centuries of history, and discovering iconic treasures such as the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo, and the Winged Victory of Samothrace. Its monumental scale, rich collections, and unparalleled cultural influence make the Louvre a landmark of universal significance.

Condair RS

The Condair RS represents the latest evolution in resistive steam humidification, setting a new benchmark for precision, reliability and operational simplicity. Its advanced mineral management technology has demonstrated outstanding performance in real-world installations and has been validated by independent experts focused on safety and compliance.

By combining highly accurate resistive heating with an intelligent scale management system, the Condair RS delivers stable steam output while significantly reducing maintenance requirements. This integration eliminates the typical constraints associated with conventional steam humidifiers when operated under varying water qualities. As a result, the Condair RS stands out as a top choice for facilities requiring the highest standards of hygiene, performance consistency and long-term cost control.

British Museum, UK

The British Museum first opened its doors in 1759, and is now one of the largest and most important culture and history museums in the world. In 1850, it moved to a larger building that was specially built to house its ever-growing collection. At the center of the classically-designed building is a covered square, with the former British Library building at its center. The roof was designed by the English star architect Sir Norman Foster, and is made up of 3,312 glass panes arranged in pairs. They cover the entire square, which at 76,500 square feet is the largest covered public square in all of Europe. Condair steam humidifiers on each of the museum's three floors ensure an ideal indoor climate for visitors and exhibits alike.

Paul Klee Museum, Bern, Switzerland

The Kunstmuseum, Zentrum Paul Klee, is located in Bern, Switzerland, in the immediate vicinity of the Schlosshalde cemetery, where Paul Klee™s grave can also be found. The building is dominated by curved arches that blend harmoniously into the surrounding hilly landscape. It houses the comprehensive work of the Paul Klee Foundation and reflects the artist™s complexity through the division into three hills. The North Hill is dedicated to practical art education, conferences, and workshops. The Central Hill is used for collection presentation and temporary exhibitions, the South Hill for research and administration. Condair™s DL hybrid air humidifiers create an optimum indoor climate for visitors and the sensitive works of art.

National Army Museum, UK

The National Army Museum is the leading authority on the British Army and its impact on society past and present. Condair has supplied and installed three Condair RS resistive steam humidifiers to maintain the humidity around the exhibits and archives.

Henry Moore Foundation, UK

Two Condair RS steam humidifiers have been installed, by Ceilite Air Conditioning, at the prestigious Henry Moore Foundation in Hertfordshire. Henry Moore was a renowned artist, best known for his figure sculptures.
