Condair dehumidifiers safeguard Nordsee One offshore wind farm

The Nordsee One offshore wind farm in the North Sea has an installed capacity of 332 MW, generated by 54 state-of-the-art wind turbines. This clean energy production supplies electricity to approximately 400,000 households and plays an important role in significantly reducing CO₂ emissions.

To ensure reliable and long-term operation in the harsh offshore environment, Condair offshore dehumidifiers are installed in the turbine operating rooms. They maintain stable and controlled humidity levels, effectively protecting sensitive electrical and mechanical components from moisture, condensation, and corrosion.

Nordsee One offshore wind farm

Offshore wind energy is a key pillar of the green energy transition, but maintaining maximum operational reliability is critical due to the harsh marine environment. The Nordsee One wind farm, located 35 km north of Juist in the southern North Sea, consists of 54 turbines with a total output of 332 MW, supplying around 1,200 million kWh annually - enough to power approximately 400,000 households and reduce CO₂ emissions by one million tonnes per year.

To protect sensitive electronics and ensure long-term performance, Condair DC 75 dehumidifiers continuously maintain relative humidity at 50–60% in the turbines’ operating rooms. Designed for offshore conditions, the units feature stainless steel housings, robust heat exchangers, and corrosion-resistant components, ensuring reliable operation even under aggressive, salty sea air.

Condair DC

Condair GmbH, Garching, supplied a total of 54 type DC 75 dehumidifiers for the Nordsee One project. To protect them against excessive humidity and corrosion, the air must therefore be continuously dehumidified to a relative humidity of around 50–60%. The resulting condensation is discharged continuously and automatically. In the Nordsee One project, the operating rooms, each measuring approximately 135 m³ (diameter 5.5 m, height 5.7 m), are located at water-surface level. The compact DC 75 dehumidifiers (dimensions: 800 x 820 x 400 mm) work with a refrigerant circuit (refrigerant R410A) based on condensation dehumidification (falling below the dew point of the air).
